Raiders playoffs hopes end in 30-20 loss to Packers
For the 13th consecutive season, the Raiders will finish without a winning record or a playoff berth. Numbers that indicate just how much the weather and the lack of time in the pocket impacted Carr’s day as the Raiders starting QB had a tough outing going up against the Packers defense. “It hurt my heart to be honest because I know how much work I put into this, how much work our team puts into this, our coaches”. I know we put up 30 points.
Rodgers did not criticize anything McCarthy called or point any fingers at anyone, but while typically willing to dissect a game and talk about the good and the bad, he limited himself to short replies.
The rest of the accolades went to the Packers, who got 2 1/2 sacks from Julius Peppers to win their third straight game following a midseason slump. Cooper caught six passes for 120 yards and two touchdowns against Green Bay.
Cooper cracks 1,000: Amari Cooper became the first Raider with 1,000 receiving yards since Randy Moss did it in 2005. Cooper’s response? “I guess it’s a good thing to do, but people go for 1,000 yards every year”, Cooper said.
Former Raider, James Jones then caught a 30 yard strike from Packers’ quarterback Aaron Rodgers to take back the lead going into the fourth quarter.
The problems, however, seemingly were all Aaron Rodgers could think about following the Packers’ 30-20 victory over the Raiders in rainy Oakland on Sunday.
“A win’s a win”, TODAY’S TMJ4’s Elise Menaker reminded us all while joining 620WTMJ’s “Wisconsin’s Afternoon News” Monday afternoon. We have a good group of men in there.
Green Bay Packers cornerback Quinten Rollins (24) breaks ups a pass intended for Oakland Raiders wide receiver Michael Crabtree (15) during the first half of an NFL football game, Sunday, Dec. 20, 2015, in Oakland, Calif. The Packers hold a 14-6 lead over the Raiders with 8:36 remaining in the second quarter. Mike Daniels and Mike Neal had big days as well, knocking Carr around and hurrying throws.
Green Bay’s offense has been disappointing this season, averaging just 6.4 yards per pass attempt and 5.5 yards per play against teams that would combine to allow 6.7 yards per pass play and 5.6 yards per play.
REUNION WEEK: Raiders safety Charles Woodson faced the Packers for the first time since they cut him following the 2012 season.
It might not be the prettiest win, but the Packers will run their streak to three with a huge game at Arizona looming.
After falling behind 14-0, Carr twice got the Raiders into the red zone but couldn’t get a touchdown, having to settle for chip-shot field goals from Sebastian Janikowski. But a significant swing in momentum was answered immediately by the Packers, who began their next drive with excellent field position after a 47-yard kickoff return by Janis. After 10 minutes, Green Bay led 14-0 and chants of “Go, Pack, Go” rocked the Coliseum.
Carr’s first ho-ho-ho in the first quarter came when he underthrew his tight end, Clive Walford, on a third-and-long. Raiders DE Mario Edwards Jr. left after the first drive with a neck injury and WR Seth Roberts (abdominal) also was injured. Mindful of the Packers’ late-season loss at Buffalo a year ago – McCarthy even broke from his “stats are for losers” mantra during the week to point out how his teams had struggled in such late-season road games against uncommon opponents – he eventually dismissed repeated questions as nitpicking.
NOTES: Packers LB Jayrone Elliott (quadriceps) and OL David Bakhtiari (ankle) left with injuries….
GB-J.Kuhn 5 yard rush (Crosby kick), 5:08. That’s a total of 11 interceptions for Carr this season. Green Bay first-and-goal from the 1 but lost 2 yards in three plays and settled for a field goal. The field goal was set up via a Ryan Fitzpatrick 43 yard pass to Kenbrell Thompkins as the quarterback continues to establish himself.
