Rain delays Charlotte race to Sunday
The Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup will resume when Matt Kenseth leads the field to the green flag, followed by Kyle Busch, Joey Logano, Greg Biffle and Denny Hamlin.
Saturday night will mark Kenseth’s fourth start from pole of the season, a new career high for him. With Carl Edwards claiming the eighth starting spot, the Gibbs team put all four of its drivers, all of whom are Chase contenders, in the top eight. Dale Earnhardt Jr. was second-quickest with a time of 28.049 seconds, with Busch, Brad Keselowski, and Kenseth rounding out the top-five. Harvick is the defending race victor, and used his Charlotte victory a year ago to coast into the third round of the playoffs.
Charlotte is a crucial race for the NASCAR Chase for the Cup.
Four years later, Gordon picked up the first win of his Cup career at Charlotte.
“It was a little slow because of the rain but we sold a lot of ponchos”, David Hurd, vendor at the speedway, said. Twelve drivers remain in contention for the championship as the point standings reset themselves today. Spurrier says former walk-on Perry Orth will start against No. 7 LSU on Saturday because Nunez had not practiced much this week after injuring his shoulder at Missouri.
“There’s always something very special about Charlotte and about this race track”. Jimmie Johnson has the most wins (seven) among active drivers at the track… In the first round of the Chase, he finished 4th, 10th and 19th. “For us, if we can do the same thing again, then we’ll do the same thing again”. “We’re all about finding everyday people who reward themselves with a cold one at the end of the day, and the Twitter platform gives us another avenue to engage with these folks”. Only problem? Kyle Larson, running second, decided at that moment he wanted to duck onto pit road. “The others who don’t know how to do it right sure as heck should learn”. “The track is going to get back like this sooner or later anyway and you’re certainly not going to adjust for the first 20 laps”.
Gordon, Johnson’s Hendrick Motorsports teammate, will retire after this season.
