Rain hits Windies Test in Sydney
New South Wales (NSW) spinner Stephen O’Keefe was on Saturday called in to Australia’s XI for the third cricket Test against the West Indies at the Sydney Cricket Ground starting on Sunday.
Kraigg Brathwaite and Darren Bravo gave the West Indies a solid start after winning the toss in the third Test against Australia in Sydney today.
To compound Samuels’ and his team’s woes, rain immediately forced the players from the field and kept them off until tea was taken.
Australia have already won the series and retained the Frank Worrell Trophy after huge wins in the Hobart and Melbourne Tests.
According to Cricket Australia, Mitchell Marsh was not ready to accept that the Test will have no result.
“With the little bit of confidence we got from the last day of the second test match and the first day in this test match”.
First rain delayed the start and only 3 balls of the Nathan Lyon over were possible.
There was no play throughout the day with the pitch and surrounds under covers.
Denesh Ramdin will resume on 30 not out for West Indies alongside Kemar Roach, who has but to attain, on day three.
Australia’s bowlers had emerged from lunch re-energised, however, and Pattinson reaped the rewards in the third over when Bravo’s miscued attempt to pull a short delivery sent the ball flying to Usman Khawaja running in from the deep. It was broken by James Pattinson who dismissed Bravo after scoring 33.
There is a lot there to work with, we have seen their enthusiasm in the past few days and I am very happy there is plenty to work with.
Shai Hope (9), a late selection for the injured Rajendra Chandrika who injured a groin in the warm-up, was the only wicket to fall in the opening session, caught behind off Josh Hazelwood (1 for 35).
“I was upset that when once more I acquired a begin and could not keep it up”.
Brathwaite was deceived by Lyon’s extra bounce and attempted to steer the ball past slip, but instead lobbed a catch off his gloves to Steven Smith at slip.
“That is my hope now, at the end of the day we might have a solution but we still might have players that might not think they can play Test cricket, or might not really want to play Test cricket anymore”.
The constant rain that has swept across the ground over the past two days has ruled out any chance of a result in the final match in the three-game series and the final Test of the season.
