Rain possible for Thanksgiving
This morning, that area of high pressure is over the Carolinas, giving us a southerly flow of warm, moist air off the Gulf of Mexico behind that high. The temperature will be in the mid 40s to low 50s by late in the morning with partly to mostly cloudy skies. The rain chance will increase a bit Sunday as a front dies out over the Tennessee Valley.
Rainfall totals, Thursday night into Friday, could be very heavy, too. Patchy fog, mist, and drizzle is possible.
Rain originally forecast for Thursday night is now expected to arrive Friday, with the brunt of the wet stuff arriving after 4 p.m.
Those temperatures are slightly above average for this time of year for those in north and central Alabama, according to the weather service. It will be dry and mild. It does not look like widespread steady rain.
Friday: Mostly cloudy, warm, humid with a 30% coverage showers. After sunset, however, rain should begin to move into the NewsChannel 5 viewing area becoming heavy overnight. A few showers will linger behind a strong cool front. Slim rain chances are forecast through Saturday.
It will become mostly sunny today, with a high near 61. Highs will reach the 60s area-wide by late on Friday, but the early morning will be in the 40s, so bundle up if you’re shopping early.
Skies are expected to clear by mid-day Saturday with a high in the mid 30s.
Highs will climb to the mid 60s Wednesday with a small chance for rain. Wednesday will be accompanied by blue skies as many set out for their Thanksgiving destination, the weather service said.
