Rain Resumes In Flood-Hit Chennai After Two-Day Respite
Though no heavy rains have been reported in the last two days, Tamil Nadu continues to reel under the aftermath of the floods that claimed over 290 lives.
The Finance Ministry held a review meeting with public sector insurance companies including LIC, and discussed ways for expeditious disposal of claims related to floods in Tamil Nadu.

“Rain or thundershowers would occur at many places over interior Tamil Nadu and at a few coastal places and Puducherry”, a Meteorological Department official told PTI as the trough of low over the bay continued to persist.
Heavy rains have battered Chennai, Kanchipuram, Cuddalore and Thiruvallur districts for the past one month, resulting in floods that have killed over 325 lives and destroying assets worth several thousand crores of rupees.

On the loss of consumer durables by many families in the floods, Jayalalithaa said it can not be compensated through the existing structure of relief payments.

“Right now, 10,000 houses will be allotted in Chennai”, she stated.
Soldiers and other emergency workers who poured into the southeastern state have now switched to rushing food, clean drinking water and medical supplies to hard-hit residents.
Siddharth, who shared pictures of his home to show the level of flooding in Chennai due to the rains, has helped in rescue and relief operations.
