Rain stops third round of PGA Championship
Still searching for his first major win, Walker bogeyed three of his first eight holes in Round three – delayed until Sunday morning because of storms.
Rain was still falling at soggy Baltusrol as the final round rolled on, but that did not hold back three-times major victor Padraig Harrington.
A rain soaked event has forced Australian Jason Day, last year’s victor, to play 36 holes today as the tournament wraps up. The last time that happened was 2011. The course was pounded with rain and players eventually were sent home.
Harrington, who successfully defended his Open title in 2008 and won the US PGA a month later, birdied the third and picked up another shot on the fifth after hitting the pin with his approach.
A run of nine straight pars was enough to keep Walker’s nose in front before the world number 48 – the lowest ranked major victor since world number 108 Keegan Bradley won the 2011 US PGA – doubled his lead in brilliant fashion by holing out from a bunker on the 10th.
The leader or co-leader after each of the first three rounds, Walker made nine pars on the front nine and was at 11-under for the tournament.
Streb’s 63 was the third in just a few weeks as Phil Mickelson and champion Henrik Stenson both had one in the British Open. Branden Grace, who shot a final-round 67, was fourth and the leader in the clubhouse. Not likely even if Mickelson’s prediction comes true, but Kisner said on the PGA Tour you have to play as if you can get there.
That’s still a good two hours after the restart of the third round at Baltusrol. However, the weather forecast for Sunday includes a good chance for rain most of the day.
He finished at 14-under 266, one shot from David Toms’ record score in the 2001 PGA Championship. It was his first Major.
British Open champion Henrik Stenson and Brooks Koepka were another shot back.

Jimmy Walker took a one-shot lead into the second round at Baltusrol and did not play until the afternoon.
The PGA Championship was halted because of thunderstorms Saturday, raising the possibility of a second straight Monday finish in a major championship at Baltusrol.

The best of Saturday’s completed rounds were 5-under 65s by Padraig Harrington and Kevin Kisner.
Haigh was only hopeful for good weather, as soon as possible.
The heavy rain forced officials to put the lift, clean and place rule in effect for the final round. The course is there for the taking and the back nine is full of chances.
Beem has made it to the weekend round at the PGA Championship three times since his 2002 win. That restart includes the very beginning of the third round for the leaders.
