Rajendra Kumar taken to CBI headquarters for questioning after raids
The Rajya Sabha saw repeated adjournments after the opposition members created ruckus over the Central Bureau of Investigation raids as well as convening of the Arunachal Pradesh assembly session by the governor. Ideally, constitutional propriety demands that the Home Minister or the PM call a meeting of the larger parties, place the evidence before them and say we are going ahead. A senior party functionary of BJP said that everybody in the government and organisation was worked up over the issue and the timing of the raid. The CBI manual states its officers are only bound to inform a competent authority within the agency – joint director, special director or director – before carrying out such raids.
“This raid is in continuation of the habit of the BJP controlled CBI, raiding CMs such as Virbhadra Singh of Congress on the day of his daughter’s wedding”, party general secretary K C Tyagi said in a statement. Prasad said that his government had no role behind the raids.
“They said that they were looking for the papers of principal secretary to the CM”. Again at a rally at Gajole in Malda district the chief minister said that the raids were nothing but acts of political vendetta. Files of CM office are being looked into.
At the same time, he said, Congress was “no friend” of Kejriwal for whom “chickens have come home to roost”. “I am shocked”, Mamata tweeted.
“The CBI has registered a case against a senior civil servant of the Delhi government and six others on the allegation that during the period 2007 to 2014, he, along with others, abused his official position in awarding contracts from the Delhi Government to a private firm”.
“It is unprecedented that in the name of investigating the accusations against a bureaucrat, the office of the chief minister should be sealed and files searched, as alleged by the chief minister”, CPM said in a statement.
