Raleigh father charged with attempted murder after allegedly throwing kids in pond
“All I wanted was help”, he said, sounding desperate. “I was dealing with some sexual desires”, Lassiter said in the 911 call.
Alan Tysheen Eugene Lassiter, 29, of Raleigh was charged with three counts of attempted murder and was being held in jail on a $2.5 million bond. “When somebody asks for help, really help them, OK?”
Police responded to a 911 call at 9:12 p.m. Sunday in the 100 block of Shearwater Drive.
He added, “When it was all going on, I had tunnel vision”. Later in the call, he tells a bystander: “I just drowned my two daughters in the lake back there”.
“I just need the police, I need the police. She’s gonna be in shock, she’s gonna be in shock”, Lassiter told the 911 operator.
Before an off-duty Durham County deputy rescued two young girls from a pond Sunday night, his neighbor Robyn Ward said she encountered Alan Lassiter while walking her dogs and heard him screaming. His 3- and 5-year-old daughters were rescued from the water by an off-duty sheriff’s deputy and hospitalized.
Police did not say how long the girls had been in the water, and Earp referred a request for an interview Monday to the Sheriff’s Office.
He said what happened was devastating for even the police who were involved. The person who lived at the listed address for Lassiter in Raleigh said she did not know him and phone calls to family members had not been immediately returned. “I saw that the smallest one’s hands were bound, so I undid that and tried to start CPR and that’s when the police showed up”, said Ward.
A 7-year-old boy had been able to get away and run for help at a nearby business. The 3-year-old is in critical condition and the 5-year-old is stable.
“It’s very stressful for the responders”, Lopez said.
“Whether you have children or not, you’re impacted by young lives that are placed in such a horrendous situation”, Lopez said at a press conference on Monday.
Lopez said his understanding was the mother was at the hospital with the children.
