Raleigh man arrested in New York on murder, rape charges
An officer downloaded the tracking app on his iPhone and police tracked the auto to the Brooklyn Bridge then arrested Gregory behind the wheel in Brooklyn.
Kendrick Keyanti Gregory, 21, had been on the lam since Monday, when he allegedly fatally shot one man, wounding another man and then raped a 15-year-old girl.
Police say Gregory had two handguns when he was arrested.
Gregory faces several charges including murder, robbery with a unsafe weapon, first-degree rape, and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.
Sughrue’s news release stated: “Preliminary information indicates his arrest stemmed from a traffic stop that was conducted on a vehicle he was driving that had been reported stolen from a parking lot (in New York City)”.
Police said Gregory shot and killed long-time business owner Thomas Durand at the Mr. Pawn Check Cashing on Capital Boulevard Monday evening.
“He was a one-man crime spree”, Gomez said.
The officers responded Tuesday afternoon to a report of a vehicle being stolen in the vicinity of Warren Street and Broadway in lower Manhattan.
Gregory is also charged with robbing and shooting 27-year-old Lenin Alvaringa Monday morning in the 3800 block of New Bern Avenue.
The rape charges stemmed from an attack on a 15-year-old girl shortly after the slaying.
“God knows what he would have done up here in New York”, said Police Commissioner Bill Bratton, commending the NYPD officers who stopped him. “He was an individual totally out of control”.
A year earlier, on September 5, 2014, he was busted for breaking into the basement of a 10th Ave. bar near W. 43rd St., police sources said. It mushroomed very quickly.
“It was iffy”, said Skoglund, who has been with the department for more than three years. “So we went at it kind of hard”.
