Tensing lost his job when the charges were announced.
Tensing bonded out of jail mere hours after pleading not guilty during a preliminary hearing on Thursday. While Officer Tensing was indicted on a charge of murder, the indictment is not a conviction.
“We filed the grievance, number one because there was no just cause, and number two because he was not afforded his due process rights under the contract”, Mr Fehr told the Cincinnati Inquirer. Tensing said he was dragged by the vehicle and forced to shoot Dubose. That process could take four to six months to conduct. “That was not done”, Fehr said.
He said the university must hold disciplinary meetings with any employees it wishes to fire and give them a copy of the formal charges.
Ranks have grown since campus policing began in earnest amid civil unrest in the late 1960s, as have resources, helping departments become the well-equipped, career-based force they are today.
University spokeswoman Michele Ralston said it stands by its decision to terminate Tensing. “He wanted it done”, Fehr said.
Raymond Tensing (25) was charged with murder for fatally shooting Samuel Dubose (43) after the routine traffic stop last week.
The union representing Ray Tensing says the university fired him this week without due process. The two officers have not commented on the investigation.
