Ramos’ ‘Dirty Tricks’: Thousands Sign Petition Against Real Madrid Captain
Mohamed Salah will sit out two months and miss the world cup after a shoulder injury he sustained during Liverpool’s Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid, Saudi Arabian sports administrator Turki Al-Sheikh has said.
Salah suffered a dislocated shoulder after being dragged to the ground in a challenge by Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos midway through the first half. Ramos, the Madrid captain, was not shown a yellow card and the Spanish powerhouse went on to win 3-1 for its third successive Champions League title.
The FIFA World Cup 2018 kicks off in Russian Federation on June 14 when the hosts take on Saudi Arabia at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow.
The incident caused huge outrage among Liverpool and Egyptian football fans, with many claiming it to be a deliberate act from the veteran Spaniard.
He said that “Mohamed Salah proves Egyptians, when given the opportunity and right context, can be both successful and creative”.
That would have ruled him out of Egypt’s first appearance in the World Cup since 1990.
Reds fans were understandably furious with Ramos’ antics as whether the foul was accidental or not, unfortunately his reputation is always going to precede him. “Ramos is a dog”, was one trending topic on Twitter there, along with other insults.
The petition on change.org accuses Ramos of “intentionally hurting” the Egyptian worldwide as well as acting as though Liverpool players were fouling him. The petition has collected more than 111,000 signatures.
“Liverpool would have won if Salah continued to play”, said Mustafa Mohammed, an 18-year-old university student who wept when the Egyptian winger left the game.
The fate of Salah’s participation in the World up remains unclear.
“It was a tough night, but I am a fighter”, Salah wrote onInstagram.
However, Henderson was left hurting after his side’s loss in Kiev, where Gareth Bale’s brace and Loris Karius’ errors – following Mohamed Salah’s injury – were the difference.
Social media witnessed a great campaign of solidarity and good well wishes for Salah’s recovery, with hopes that he could return to the field again and catch up with the national team for the World Cup finals in Russian Federation.
