Rams edge Seahawks in overtime
Pete Carroll feels like the rest of the Pacific Northwest does about the Seattle Seahawks’ 2015 opener. “But we can’t play with those kind of mistakes and win consistently”. And we didn’t really seize those opportunities. But the NFL’s most prolific pass-catching tight end the past four seasons won’t do the Seahawks much good if Russell Wilson doesn’t have time to wait for him to run his patterns down the field. “We didn’t hit it right, and so we just mishit it…We were kicking the ball way down the field”. “It was a frustrating game in that regard”.
“That is not what was supposed to happen”, Carroll said, explaining he didn’t call for an onside kick.
The Seahawks have faced the Packers three straight years and know what to expect from Aaron Rodgers.
Regardless – these reports came from prior to Seattle’s loss today in St. Louis.
Just as it happened after the Seahawks’ previous game, the loss in February’s Super Bowl, Pacific Northwesterners are likely to be fixated this week on how the Seahawks’ offense ended Sunday’s opening defeat at St. Louis.
The Seahawks were in shotgun formation and Russell Wilson handed the ball to Marshawn Lynch.
“If there’s time on the clock, the game’s never over no matter what the score is”, Foles said.
Rams’ Sims, Reynolds out: St. Louis Rams coach Jeff Fisher said DE Eugene Sims and special teams ace Chase Reynolds have knee injuries that could sideline them for a few weeks. They want to win and while nobody will come out and say publicly that Bailey lost the game for the Seahawks, it’d be naïve to think that many of them haven’t thought and maybe even talked privately about the fact that if Chancellor plays in that game, Kendricks nearly certainly isn’t scoring that fateful touchdown.
“Just reading the action of the pass and dropping and getting in our areas, ” Carroll said. It’s just (Week 1) rust, you know. We’re not in a panic.
The offensive line had a much better showing than initially expected, especially for a group with three first-year starters, but there were still some issues.
“It’s my fault at the end of game”, Coughlin said. “It didn’t have anything to do with corner play at all“.
In the third quarter the Seahawks left Cook alone again behind the linebackers over the middle for a 30-yard gain to the Seattle 2.
Clearly, the Rams’ ability to not only pressure Wilson but to maintain their gaps and contain his scrambling ability were major components in their upset win on Sunday. They have a new defensive coordinator, a new tight end and, unfortunately, a new strong safety.
Not all of them were the right ones.
How’d he do, in the coach’s mind? “All in all, he did OK”, the coach said of Bailey. That’s an exciting element for the offense to have as it moves forward in 2015.
Who knows if it was running through their heads at the time, but it’s hard to imagine that Carroll, Wilson and offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell weren’t having Super Bowl flashbacks. What are you going to do?!? “He could have played better”. K.J. Wright and even All-Pro middle man Bobby Wagner.
“I put it all on me”.
“My inner child is walking home in the cold now”, my friend said before going out for a smoke. “It was a little bit of everything”. That’s in part a sign of how the young players have matured, but it also illustrates how quarterback Nick Foles has imparted his positive, never-say-die mentality.
