Rams fire offensive coordinator Frank Cignetti after latest poor showing
Quarterback Nick Foles, acquired in trade from the Philadelphia Eagles, has been abysmal and the team is now averaging just 296.3 yards per game, the 31st mark in the league.
Even so, the Rams are ready to put him back in that starting role.
The St. Louis Rams relieved offensive coordinator Frank Cignetti of his duties Monday, the team announced.
The bloodletting in St. Louis has begun, but Rams head coach Jeff Fisher remains safe.
Cignetti had been on the Rams staff since 2012, serving as the quarterbacks coach before being promoted ahead of this season.
Boras also joined St. Louis in 2012, initially as tight ends coach.
Under his guidance, the Rams have regressed significantly on the offensive side of the ball.
Last month, the Indianapolis Colts beat the Denver Broncos, 27-24, the week they fired Pep Hamilton as coordinator, and the Tennessee Titans beat the New Orleans Saints, 34-28, days after firing head coach Ken Whisenhunt. There should be plenty of other changes coming to the Rams after Fisher extended the team’s run of seasons without a winning record to 12, up to and including the zip code the team calls home for their next attempt to play something resembling capable offensive football. If nothing changes with Boras making the decisions, it should be interesting to see how many offensive coordinators the Rams are willing to go through before a change is explored within another area.
