Rams needed to make Jared Goff starter for both present and future
If there is one team that Fisher shouldn’t have started Goff’s career against, it is definitely the Dolphins.
A person with knowledge of the decision tells The Associated Press that quarterback Jared Goff will make his National Football League debut on Sunday when the No. 1 pick starts for the Los Angeles Rams. “I trust the coaches and their decision”. That didn’t make the inevitable move any easier to take. I saw a lot of stuff from the sidelines, as much as you can see during games, and learned from a lot of the things Case did, good and bad. The Rams will continue to script their first 16 plays, and Boras and Goff will discuss which plays Goff feels most comfortable running. Keenum’s season has been just as underwhelming.
Maybe Goff would have made the difference. Several teammates noted Goff’s improved confidence in play-calling since his first weeks in LA. Goff could do no worse and when he does make a mistake you would tend to give a small break due to his inexperience.
An injection of youth at quarterback, along with a strong arm and a playmaking ability that warranted a four-year, $27.9-million contract, could be the spark the Rams (4-5) need to make a playoff push.
They are 4-5, but because of the NFL’s widespread mediocrity, they are only 1 1/2 games removed from a wild-card spot.
Los Angeles is dead last in points scored, 31st in total yards, and 29th in yards per play.
Butler initially was waived after three games with an injury settlement for his calf on October 4.
It seemed obvious that a change needed to be made.
The Vikings were expected to sign free agent Kai Forbath to take Walsh’s place.
Part of the reason why Goff may have not started until now is because of his sub par play in the preseason games. It’s about time Goff gets some playing time, but he can’t do it alone.
Instead they looked to draft Goff, trading six of their picks to the Tennessee Titans in exchange for the 2016 first overall pick.
Was Fisher out of his mind?
Goff is going to get the snaps in a Wild Card chase for the Rams.
For those that want to watch the Dolphins and Rams on Sunday, the game can be seen on TV on FOX.
He stuck to his guns.
Moments after the Rams’ practice Wednesday, Keenum stepped to the podium and mostly frowned. Sometimes bluntly, sometimes sublimely. “So we thought they were just like speculating”. Or some meaning behind them.
It was a narrative Fisher and offensive coordinator Rob Boras pushed by praising the strides Goff was making in the classroom and on the practice field. Sources said the Rams’ staff believed the rookie from Cal was “close” to stepping in as the starter within the past two weeks, but Keenum remained the quarterback for Sunday’s 9-6 road win against the Jets at Met Life Stadium.
