Rams RB Gurley wins top offensive rookie award
He also missed the final game of the year with a foot injury.
The Rams will arrive in the Los Angeles for the 2016 season with an award-winning running back.
Last month, Gurley also was named rookie of the year by the Pro Football Writers of America.
Rivera led the team to a remarkable 15-1 regular season while Newton tossed 35 touchdown passes and ran for 10 more scores.
Rivera also won the award two years ago.
Running back Todd Gurley was named this season’s Offensive Rookie of the Year on Saturday.
St. Louis running back Todd Gurley has been awarded the Offensive Rookie of the Year. In 2011, he was the league’s top offensive rookie. He rushed for more than 100 yards in each of his next four contests, emerging as one of football’s best young playmakers. The No. 1 pick in last year’s draft, Winston went to the Pro Bowl as an alternate after throwing for 4,042 yards and 22 touchdowns.
While he didn’t replicate that level of success the rest of the way-Gurley had only one 100-yard game after Week 8-he remained an effective weapon.
To come off of a torn ACL and do that is ridiculous beyond belief.
Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Wade Phillips has won The Associated Press NFL Assistant Coach of the Year award.
Meanwhile, the Raiders and Buccaneers both improved four wins.
While that is one downfall, it is probably his only downfall. The Rams made the surprising decision to select Gurley 10th overall despite the fact that Gurley was still recovering from a severe knee injury he suffered the previous fall.
If anything, making sure he secures the ball, especially on longer runs, will be the key to making him eventually virtually unstoppable to most, if not all, defenses across the NFL.
It’s a fine start to a career that will carry incredibly high expectations going in to year two for Gurley.
His voice almost cracking with emotion, Gurley told a national television audience during Saturday’s NFL Honors show that the award: “Definitely means a lot”.
