Rams to start Foles; Keenum (concussion) out
The NFL apparently doesn’t feel like it was enough to justify a penalty of any kind.
Keenum still hasn’t passed through the NFL’s concussion protocol, according to ESPN, so the Rams are prepared to start Foles on Sunday against the Bengals. The play was not blown dead, and Ravens defensive end Timmy Jernigan eventually broke through and tackled Keenum, who landed hard as the back of his head bounced off the ground. There are certified athletic trainers in the booth that have the ability to tell game officials to remove a player to be evaluated for concussion symptoms, but Keenum also spoke to a team trainer immediately after the play. He stayed in the game, and fumbled the ball away two plays later to set up the Ravens’ game-winning field goal.
Fisher said Keenum will undergo additional tests Saturday. Keenum has yet to clear concussion protocol, clearing the way for the 26-year-old Foles to potentially reclaim his starting gig against the Bengals.
Fisher left himself nearly no choice after Keenum’s controversial injury was mishandled a week ago. It’s safe to say that the league’s concussion protocol did not work as planned.
