Rand Paul Aide: Rubio’s Campaign Manager Hit Me
A campaign aide had visited the store earlier this year with his kids and noticed a Lego sign for Ron Paul, Rand’s father and a former presidential candidate himself. Marco Rubio’s (R-Florida) campaign threw a punch during a scuffle the night before.
The altercation occurred in a Michigan Bar on Mackinac Island, which is hosting the biennial GOP leadership conference. It sort of looks like Beeson just kind of pushes him in the face.
“It is unfortunate that my line of work has caused the illness that my family deals with to be played out in the news media”, Yob wrote.
Yob also took to Twitter to call on Beeson to be fired by Rubio’s camp, writing: “I am hereby calling on Marco Rubio to fire Rich Beeson immediately”.
Rubio, punched Sen. Paul’s top adviser John Yob at Horn’s Bar on Mackinac Island Thursday night. “This thing has been blown way, way, way out of proportion”, Mackinac Island police chief Brett Riccinto said. Several of the Republican presidential candidates are expected to attend the conference.
However, a spokesperson for the Michigan state police confirmed to the Guardian that they are not involved in the investigation and that it is being handled by the Mackinac Island Police Department. The Rubio campaign is not to blame.
A Michigan political blogger named Brandon Hall published a post Friday in which he claimed to have seen the Horn’s Bar incident.
When asked if it had any additional comment, Paul campaign spokesman Sergio Gor said: “Not at this time”. I am proud to join the team and look forward to building the strongest political operation in America. Asked for proof of the incident, Yob sent a cell phone photo of Beeson flipping him off, with both hands, and promised video of the punch later.
Beeson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Hall noted that Beeson had been trying to whip votes for Rubio for the conference’s straw poll before the alleged incident.
