Rand Paul goes on hunt for Obamacare bill in ‘secure location’
In an impromptu press conference outside of House leadership’s offices, Paul likened the move to hide the bill to Democrats’ handling of Obamacare in 2009.
The draft document shrouded with secrecy was made available on Thursday to House Energy and Commerce Committee members and staff for reading only.
Sen. Rand Paul brought a photo-copier and said he wanted to make copies of the bill to share with the public. “We heard it was in a secret room, and that it was under lock and key with guards”.
“We are continuing our search for the Obamacare Lite bill!” his Twitter post said.
Ultimately, the Kentucky senator was unsuccessful. Before the election, most Republican replacement plans would have eliminated the Medicaid expansion outright.
Other Democrats, as well as Senator Paul are Twitting as their search for the bill continues. Unfortunately, until the House reveals their new plan, no one can be sure what the Republicans are planning.
Asked whether he felt all of the Senate Republicans were on-board with the legislation, Brady said only, “You’ll have to ask them”.
“Everybody’s saying the train’s left the station and it’s coming”, Paul said.
“She wouldn’t tell us anything really”, Paul told reporters after his thwarted attempt. “The Republican Party shouldn’t act in the same way”.
That bill passed the House and Senate, but President Barack Obama vetoed it. I demand the House release the text of the bill.
Republicans have hit internal roadblocks for years in their effort to repeal that 2010 statute. And it would convert Medicaid from an open-ended entitlement to a program of capped federal payments to the states. “An association is a group plan, they would still be protected”.
Yet a trio of Senate conservatives – Mr. Paul of Kentucky, Ted Cruz of Texas and Mike Lee of Utah – have objected to the House GOP approach, on top of centrists who are anxious about unwinding Obamacare’s expansion of Medicaid for the poor or defunding Planned Parenthood over its abortion practice as part of the draft plan. Murphy said Republicans should work with Democrats to fix the healthcare law.
“I’m told that the Republicans have their ACA – Affordable Care Act – repeal somewhere in the Capitol, but they won’t show it to us”, a grave Hoyer starts out, looking directly into the camera.
“That draft is no longer valid”, House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, R-La., told reporters Tuesday.
One of the most contentious of the remaining proposals is a new tax, backed by Ryan, that would be imposed on part of the value of expensive employer-provided health care plans.
The tax credits now are based on an individual’s income and cost of coverage.
So Paul, who is not shy about spectacles, had some fun. This controversial measure could ultimately drive even more people to the individual market, said Representative Mark Meadows, who heads the conservative Freedom Caucus.
The change to tax credit eligibility could please some lawmakers concerned that provisions like health savings accounts favor the wealthy over those with lower incomes.
“We should replace on the same day”, he said.
