Rand Paul Is So Over Donald Trump: ‘It’s almost Become Pitiful’
“Nobody wants that”, Paul said on Fox. “I’m sure that other people might have done it and may not want to say it in front of 25 million people”. Over a brief exchange, the focus turned to Trump, who didn’t begin with the topic at hand, instead, taking aim at Kentucky Senator Rand Paul.
Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., hasn’t had a lot of luck generating excitement for his presidential campaign, but he’s looking to change that Wednesday night at the second televised GOP primary debate.
“I think America’s tired of it, the sort of sophomoric jibes”, Paul said during the interview.
Donald Trump says he never attacked Rand Paul’s looks – but he “has a lot of material to work with”. “I’m the only one really on the stage who stood up in defense of privacy, through the Fourth Amendment right to be left alone”.
Trump then sarcastically proclaimed that he had never attacked Paul’s own physical appearance despite the presence of “plenty of subject matter” for him to criticize.
“I don’t know enough about either one of them to know what their positions are on policies”, he said.
“I kind of have to laugh, when I think of, ‘Hmm, it sounds like a non-sequitur.’ He was asked whether or not he would be capable … to be in charge of the nuclear weapons and all of a sudden there’s a sideways attack at me. My mom’s not happy that I just did”.
Part of Paul’s challenge now is to convince voters that he’s a true outsider.
“I continue to be one of the leading proponents for term limits”, he said.
The campaign, he said, is also actively working to remind people he’s been an eye surgeon for 20 years and has spent most of his life outside politics. “And I think these are the kinds of things we probably ought to be discussing”.
