Randy Edsall Out as Head Football Coach at University of Maryland

Despite not having suspended head coach Kyle Flood, Rutgers was, astoundingly, in position to tie #4 Michigan State in the closing seconds of that game, but instead of trying a Hail Mary, for a few reason, QB Chris Laviano spiked the ball on fourth down rather than passing.

“We just want to win“, he said. “I’m going to go enjoy a nice Gatorade tonight”.

The Buckeyes had two primary goals last week and for the most part accomplished both of them: fix the red zone offense and work on not turning the ball over.

Head coach Randy Edsall, amidst rumors that he could be fired during the upcoming bye week, pulled out all the stops against the Buckeyes. Or a product of Meyer’s genius? We take care of all facets of web design – visual design, layout design and content development.

For now, everything’s peachy. And an inability to develop consistency behind center haunted the coach and his staff. In four-plus years, Edsall’s quarterbacks were picked off 69 times, evidence of a staff completely unable to develop young passers. Mr. Outside, aka Cardale Jones, passed for a career-high 291 yards, completing a personal-best 21 tosses (out of 28) with two going for touchdowns, including a 48-yarder to Jalin Marshall in the third quarter for the go-ahead score. J.T. Barrett came seemingly out of nowhere to lead his team in 11 games and the brink of the Big 10 championship before the Michigan Wolverines broke his ankle. “They complemented each other perfectly”.

Is the reporter to blame for asking a stupid question.

“I do that every single game out of the respect I have for these kids and what they go through”, he said. This is because he’s the person at the job interview who says his biggest weakness is being just too much of a perfectionist. Despite a tantrum on Saturday following the game when asked about the possibility of being canned, that is indeed what happened.

But I have my doubts about this quarterback shuffle. It’s a scheme Meyer used with great success when he was at Florida. Instead it was a less-than-stellar effort against a Terps defense that got good penetration for a good portion of the day and held Ezekiel Elliott to 29 yards on 12 first-half carries. Obviously, we wish would’ve played a little better.

Given Jones’ shaky play in recent weeks, why not leave him in Saturday on those promising drives? Ohio State leads, 21-7. They ranked 51st in defensive finishing drives, typically allowing 4.18 points per scoring opportunity. Edsall and his Terps are coming off of two bowl seasons in two different conferences and were trending up before this frustrating start. The senior now has six games left to try to break into the top 10 currently rounded out by Alvin Blount’s 2,158 yards.

Instead, Meyer seems bent on winning games while still finding a way to keep Jones in the starting role. But the move does nothing to quell any simmering quarterback controversy. “I can’t imagine… I don’t read my phone very often, but I can imagine what those two young guys hear”.

For what it’s worth, Meyer didn’t come to this decision easily. This time, though, he was relieved by Barrett when the Buckeyes reached the Maryland 15-yard line. Looking back on his tenure with the Terps, it appears to be a failure. “Whoever is the coach, I’m going to play my hardest for him”.

“I think the red-zone package they put in for J.T. was flawless”, Elliott said.
