Randy Quaid, wife held in Vermont on fugitive charges
The wife of actor Randy Quaid has been jailed in Vermont on $500,000 bail for skipping out of the country after the couple was charged with vandalism.
Quaid, 65, was detained Friday evening attempting to cross the Canada-USA border checkpoint in Highgate, Vt., after Canadian officials warned him he would be deported. Once back on American soil, Quaid could be extradited back to California, where he faces felony charges for vandalism of the guest house and failing to appear in court while on bail. Theyre charged with occupying the property illegally and failure to appear for court dates.
The judge also transferred Evi Quaid’s case to Vermont’s Franklin County, where her husband was arraigned today, so future court appearances for the couple can be done together.
He had requested asylum in Canada in 2010 he and his wife Evi, claiming to be threatened with death by a group called Hollywood Star Whackers who seek to kill celebrities, according to local media.
He was reportedly arrested Saturday on outstanding warrants.
Randy Quaid is known for movies such as “The Last Picture Show” and “The Last Detail”, for which he received an Oscar nomination, as well as the 1980s “Vacation” comedies.

Authorities in Vermont have determined that the couple meet the requirements to beto California on the warrants issued for them in Santa Barbara.
Randy Quaid is accused of defrauding a Santa Barbara innkeeper, and Evi Quaid faces a misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest, the sheriff’s office said.
During a court appearance in St. Albans, Quaid said he had not been informed ahead of time of the 2010 court proceeding, which he said occurred while he was in Vancouver on a previously scheduled trip.
They are now being held at separate correctional facilities after a judge set bail at $500,000 for each of them, the statement said. He has also starred in “Brokeback Mountain” and “Independence Day“.
