Rangel ‘Really Shocked’ De Blasio Is Snubbing New York Congressional Delegation
Lehrer pointed out that de Blasio had misquoted Yogi Berra, who died last month; the Yankee’s aphorism actually is, “it ain’t over till it’s over”.
“It is astonishing to me that the MTA would threaten to hold New York City transit projects hostage for more city money”, said Borough President Melinda Katz.
This did not sit well with at least one Queens official.
There are more than 57,000 people in city homeless shelters, an increase from when de Blasio took office in January 2014. “The MTA is an authority created by the legislature to deliver transit services throughout the region, not to stifle projects at the expense of millions of suffering customers”.
De Blasio, a Democrat, has yet to make an endorsement in the race.
Richard Flanagan, a College of Staten Island political-science professor, pointed out that de Blasio is probably anticipating a primary challenge in two years, when he’s expected to run for re-election. Along with the proposal for divestment from coal, de Blasio is also pressuring the pension fund managers to investigate options and design long-term strategies that will further support renewable energy and eschew fossil fuels, all while protecting the retirement funds of city employees.
“The MTA is controlled and run by the State”.
“The city is much safer, much more prepared today than where we stood three years ago”, de Blasio says.
“New York City is a global leader when it comes to taking on climate change and reducing our environmental footprint”, the mayor said.
