Rangers had to be patient – Mark Warburton
“They [St Johnstone] will be a good measure of the Premiership”.
“We always felt that if we kept going the chances would come”, he said.
Foderingham was at the heart of fantastic English League Cup wins at Stoke in 2012, when Swindon won a thrilling tie 4-3 in extra time, and then in London against Queens Park Rangers a year later as his side won 2-0.
It’s a full-strength side for Rangers tonight, and Warburton will be hoping that his team can pass their biggest test of the season with flying colours.
Mark Warburton says silverware would be a big lift for fans.
“They are a very good outfit and we have to be prepared for that”.
“So with the greatest of respect we are not fearful of anything, we are just looking forward to the next game at Ibrox”.
“I’m delighted we got the goal because I think over the piece we deserved that”, Aitken added.
“Playing against 10 men for the last 15 or 20 minutes you would have expected us to get a couple more”.
“Rangers have enjoyed a lot of possession in games this season but we have players here who are comfortable on the ball and that will be important”.
“If you look at Kenny Miller, Lee Wallace, Dean Shiels, they have been there and done it”, he said.
Promotion remains Warburton’s overriding priority for his first season in the job but he is also appreciative of what winning one of the national domestic cup competitions would represent for Rangers.
“If you go up from the Championship now as champions I think you fare very well”.
“All the papers are saying it’s huge test for us because they are Premiership”. The main thing is the togetherness in the dressing room. But now we are only looking forward and hopefully this season can be the one when we are trophy winners.
Manager Tommy Wright has watched Rangers on several occasions to map out his game plan. “They did everything we asked of them, there are a few exhausted legs in there but I’m proud of every one of them”.
“In the first half I thought we lacked a little bit of care in the final third; we got into good positions but didn’t really maximise it”.
“Teams are working very, very hard to try and stop us, and I think that’s having an effect as we go beyond the hour mark in games as we get more space and more time, and we can hurt teams”.
