Raptors rally to finally beat Bosh, top Heat 108-94
7 seconds remaining that ended with a miss and overtime.
Raptors: DeRozan finished with 31 points and Terrence Ross had 17….
The Raptors denied the Heat what would have been their first four-game winning streak since the 2014 playoffs.
Jeremy Lin and the Charlotte Hornets needed overtime to beat the Toronto Raptors, 109-99 on Thursday night (Friday morning in Australia) but not before a late-game scare from the Canadian squad. Dwyane Wade led the team with 28 points on 13 of 17 shooting, Hassan Whiteside added 20 points while Goran Dragic had 16 points as the Heat shot a healthy 53 percent from the field. Kemba Walker finished with 27 points, six rebounds, a team-high seven assists and two blocks… Meanwhile, the Raptors made just 16 of 41 (39%) and only 3 of 15 3-pointers. They’re 0-8 when opponents reach that total. But Toronto never got caught, and Lowry got the roll on a layup with 2:25 left to put the Raptors up 10 and wrap up the win. But he made up for it in the fourth quarter, hitting 4 of 11 (including 3 of 6 on 3-pointers) to force overtime.
Heat: Wade continued polishing his resume, with his first point of the second half moving him past Bob Lanier (19,248) for 46th on the NBA’s career scoring list.
Hornets: Lin made just his second start of the season in place of guard Nicolas Batum, who was out with an undisclosed illness. Spencer Hawes chipped in five points, a team-high-tying and season-high 10 rebounds, four assists and a season-high three steals…
The Thunder led by 12 points in the second quarter before the Cavaliers scored 18 straight to seize the lead.
Raptors: Toronto was whistled for two technical fouls – on Biyombo in the second quarter, and Lowry in the third. If the score is tied and you come up with an unexpected extra possession, it makes sense to call a timeout and try to set up a halfcourt play, rather than put up a prayer as time expires. It was also a season-worst for the Heat, who hadn’t allowed anyone to shoot better than 67 per cent in any quarter coming into Friday.
That’s what happened on Friday night. And the Plattsburgh State men’s basketball team from upstate NY was also at the game, in town for a weekend tournament.
Heat: Host Portland on Sunday.
