Raven-Symoné Ain’t Here for Your ‘Ghetto’ Name
After Raven-Symoné, whose name has English and Old Norse origins, made those comments, there were audible gasps from the audience, and looks from her panel. “Just to bring it back, can we take back “racist” and say “discriminatory”?”
The hot topic this morning was “Are you judged by your name?” “That’s just not gonna happen”. One of the women at the roundtable tried to reason with Raven, and explained that a woman’s name is not something she chose.
Prior to saying those names, Raven-Symoné said that she didn’t consider bias against those names “racism”, only discrimination. Nicole Wallace poignantly asked her, “Are you really that famous?” after Symoné complained on air that her hand cramps after signing too many autographs for fans.
Co-host Whoopi Goldberg agreed with her, and said, “It’s a much better word”.
Goldberg, 59, didn’t say a word- but she looked dumbfounded.
