Ravens bring in offensive tackle Jake Long, a former first overall pick
Long, the No. 1 overall pick of the 2008 draft, is visiting Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Alabama, to get consultation on his knee. They also parted ways with former left tackle Eugene Monroe, who then decided that he would just retire from the league. Although he started all 16 games in each of his first three seasons, since then he has struggled to stay healthy, and past year he played in just four games, starting none, with the Falcons.
If the Ravens feel he cannot be the starter, he does give them a veteran option that could fill in if something where to happen to Stanley or right tackle Ricky Wagner.
Long signed with the St. Louis Rams in 2013 as a free agent, playing in 22 games in two years for the club.
Offensive tackle Jake Long was not immediately signed by the Baltimore Ravens on Wednesday and his physical is ongoing.
Even after drafting Ronnie Stanley with their first-round pick of the 2016 NFL Draft, the Baltimore Ravens needed to add some depth to an offensive line that struggled during the 2015 season. The eight-year veteran did tell ESPN last month that this is the healthiest he has felt in five or six years. He started every game for Miami during his first three seasons, but has not played an entire season since 2010. He hasn’t started a game since early in the 2014 season.
