Ravens’ John Harbaugh compares training camp to childbirth
After a recent practice a reporter brought up that Ravens players were saying this was the most demanding training camp they had gone through. Of course, he also led the Ravens to a Super Bowl victory in 2013, beating brother Jim and the San Francisco 49ers 34-31. “He is quick, but he’s just crafty within his routes doing stuff that, obviously, I haven’t seen anybody do except Miles (Austin, in practice)”. While practice still helps players prepare for the season, it is certainly hard to assess one’s improvements when you know what’s coming at you.
“The blokes who’re going to play have gotten to play”, Harbaugh stated. He wasn’t gonna hand it to you on a plate.”Harbaugh got his break when Reid moved to him to secondary coach in 2007″.
“It was a success”, Harbaugh said.
And though the practices won’t impact the preseason game, the Ravens’ injury situation may. “Maybe it’s like childbirth – it’s not so bad after you have your kid. We had three really good practices against a good football team, and I think we improved”. The principles have remained the same.
“Jeffrey [Lurie, Eagles owner] mentioned to me that maybe we do it again in two years when we’re not playing each other”, Harbaugh said. “Wide receivers coach Bob Bicknell is going to tell you to stack, which means basically putting yourself over the defensive back because by doing that it slows him down and it really allows the ball to get put in a place where he has to go through you to go get it”.
Nonetheless, this year’s schedule will present a new set of challenges for Baltimore as they’ll be struck by some tough match ups right out the gate, starting their season on the road against the Denver Broncos.
