Ravens QB Flacco out for year with left knee injury
After missing twice from 51 yards, including once with a chance to potentially win the game in the final minutes, kicker Justin Tucker delivered on his third try with a game-winning 47-yard boot. The Rams pressure hasn’t always been there, but it’s obvious the Ravens suffer from the same ailments the Rams do.
The Ravens, who are 3-7 heading into next Monday’s game against the Cleveland Browns, will start 12th-year quarterback Matt Schaub going forward, and sign a backup quarterback early this week.
Nov 22, 2015; Baltimore, MD, U.S.; St. Louis Rams middle linebacker James Laurinaitis (55) hits Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Chris Givens (13) during the first quarter at M&T Bank Stadium.
St. Louis Rams quarterback Case Keenum sustained a concussion against the Ravens on Sunday, the team told reporters after the game. He broke bones in his forearm in the first half of the game. Veteran quarterback Joe Flacco was horrendous, sailing passes over the heads of most of his receivers.
Flacco finished the game, which is a testament to his toughness. The Rams’ defense was put in a tough position by dealing with several short fields.
Indeed, it was fairly miserly for the offense of both sides as the pair combined for just 11 first downs and 212 yards before half time, but it was the Rams who got the only touchdown in that time when Todd Gurley burrowed his way over from a yard out.
The last of those turnovers came on a Keenum fumble near midfield that set the Ravens up for a walk-off field goal from placekicker Justin Tucker. Tucker eventually made them pay as he hit the game-winning kick as time expired.
Keenum appeared to sustain the injury during the Rams’ last drive of the game. The eight-year veteran bounced right up after the fall but could be seen limping.
In addition to the injuries the Ravens suffered today, Steve Smith, rookie Breshad Perriman and Terrell Suggs all suffered season-ending injuries. Flacco will miss his first game of his National Football League career, and the Ravens roster looks completely depleted 10 games into the season. Hopefully, the recovery process goes smoothly and he is ready to go at the start of next season.
Knowing how durable Flacco has been, it was a shock to hear Harbaugh announce his season was over.
“He’s an iron man, an absolute iron man, warrior-type of a player”.
