Ravens Win on 64-Yard Blocked Field Goal Return for Touchdown
Except McCown left the 33-27 loss to the Ravens with a collarbone injury. Brent Urban, in his Ravens debut, smacked the ball out of the air and Will Hill, the Ravens’ starting strong safety, scooped it up and ran down the sidelines for a game-ending, 64-yard touchdown. Will Hill recovered the football and took it to the house to give Baltimore the win. All 11 of their games this season have been decided by eight points or less.
Both teams punted on their opening possessions, but the Ravens (4-7) got an 82-yard punt return by rookie Kaelin Clay, already on his third National Football League team, to get on the scoreboard first.
McCown got Cleveland back down the field, and he used his athleticism to extend a play for what felt like days before hitting Marlon Moore for the Browns’ first touchdown. The 2-8 Browns hadn’t made many headlines beyond their decision to bench Johnny Manziel for yet another series of off-field transgressions.
After the teams exchanged field goals, the Ravens increased their lead on Buck Allen’s first touchdown, when he caught a short pass from Schaub, playing for injured starter Joe Flacco, and darted to the end zone.
The Patriots lead the AFC East by four games with five to play, and they could clinch their 12th division title in 13 seasons as early as Sunday.
Despite the season being pretty much over, Browns fans still come to games and believe good things will happen.
“Tough one to wrack your brain around”, coach Mike Pettine said.
The Browns appeared to be in position to pull out a comeback win after cornerback Tramon Williams intercepted Schaub with 50 seconds left at Baltimore’s 46.
Browns kicker Travis Coons, who beat the Ravens with a game-winning kick in Baltimore in Week 5, lined up for a 51-yard attempt with the game tied 27-27 and 3-seconds remaining.
“Our guys battled back, came back from some deficits, but didn’t finish it. That’s the frustrating thing”.
Overshadowed by the absurdity of that play, however, was the fact that the preceding two minutes were nearly just as insane. McCown has two capable targets in receiver Travis Benjamin and tight end Gary Barnidge, but Cleveland’s ground game is 31st and the defense ranks 30th.
Then Josh McCown got hurt on the ensuing drive.
But as Cleveland attempted to get closer for Coons, who made his first 18 attempts this season, Davis wasted valuable time because of a communication issue with the sideline.
The Ravens special teams unit scored two touchdowns.
