RAW VIDEO: Chopper 5 Footage of Black Lives Matter Protest near Marathon
The race started near U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis and finished near the State Capitol in St. Paul.
Amid heavy police presence and inside a double set of barricades, including a 6-foot-metal fence, many runners raised fists to show support for the Black Lives Matter cause.
They wanted to raise awareness about issues between St. Paul police.
KSTP-TV (http://bit.ly/1L8COUf ) reports the group marched within 50 yards of barriers near the end of the course but did not disrupt the event.
Mayor Chris Coleman said the group’s leader, Rashad Turner, assured him protesters wouldn’t interfere with runners and the rally would be peaceful.
A lovely fall morning produced a few attractive finish times at the Twin Cities Marathon Sunday, with the men’s champion coming in just 61 seconds over the course record.
