Rawls runs for 209 yards as Seahawks beat 49ers 29-13
The coaching staff runs things the way I like. It’s just in my makeup.
“I’ve never been a stats guy or cared about how many yards or catches I have, but it was very fun breaking that seal and getting in the end zone”, said McDonald, who also had a career-long 36-yard catch in the game.
Considering the the offense was missing running back Carlos Hyde, the S.F. offense did well to just about reach its season scoring average (which is the worst in the NFL).
Most people assumed that, if the Seattle Seahawks were to make the playoffs again this season, they’d need the help of star running back Marshawn Lynch. Only Doug Martins and Adrian Peterson ran over 200 yards in this season’s NFL.
Rawls had 108 total yards in the first half, 96 rushing and 12 on a catch and train-like run on the game’s opening drive on which he ran over a 49ers player.
And there is a chance the job could be Rawls going forward. He was just a spectator – and Rawls’ biggest cheerleader – and is set to visit Dr. William Meyers on Monday in Philadelphia to try and get an exact determination of his abdominal injury.
Despite being listed as questionable on Friday’s injury report, he was widely expected to give it a go after head coach Pete Carroll said on Friday Lynch was “day to day” but “feels like he can play” against the 49ers.
“I don’t know what effect that had on us”, Bowman said.
When given enough carries, Rawls has shown he can be successful despite being an undrafted rookie.
Rawls’ rushing yards bettered the 169 he had last month in the overtime loss at Cincinnati, which the 29-year-old Lynch sat out with a strained hamstring. “I’m so proud of him”, Baldwin said of Lockett.
The Seahawks went into the first quarter with a 13-0 lead, after Draughn fumbled the ball in the second play of the game.
The defense had its shakier moments as Blaine Gabbert found success throwing to his tight ends to keep the game fairly close through three quarters, but they tightened up in the fourth quarter and Cliff Avril’s sack of Gabbert on a third down midway through the final quarter made the final outcome pretty academic. The quarterback finished the day with 264 yards passing, one touchdown, no interceptions, and 20 yards rushing. “You can’t come away with field goals”.
But Gabbert got the 49ers moving late in the first half and played well against one of the best defenses in the league.
Wilson threw three touchdown passes while completing 24-of-29 for 260 yards.
NOTES: Seattle won its fifth straight against the 49ers….
In Lynch’s place, Thomas Rawls thrived as the leading running back putting together a solid performance that consisted of him putting up 255 yards from scrimmage and two scores.
Lockett doubled his career touchdown numbers before halftime.
