Ray Allen: Reportedly considering return to National Basketball Association
If it’ll happen, the Golden State Warriors, Cleveland Cavaliers, Los Angeles Clippers and San Antonio Spurs are probably on his final shortlist. After not playing a single National Basketball Association game since the 2013-14 season, Ray Allen is reportedly considering a return from his semi-retirement after the formation of the Golden State Warriors super team. The Warriors are said to be unsure if they want to sign Allen.
It’s an intriguing prospect, bringing Ray Allen to an already stacked team.
If you’re at all curious how Warriors’ GM Bob Myers can afford a roster comprised entirely of former All-Stars and future Hall of Famers, it’s because Klay Thompson and Steph Curry make a combined $28 million next season. That kept the team alive, and it followed by taking down the Spurs in Game 7. But the sharpshooting guard has been reaching out to several teams about a potential comeback, according to multiple reports.
Allen played the next season, averaging just 9.6 points in 26.5 minutes per game during the regular season and posting similar numbers in the postseason, before unofficially retiring. He also won championships with Boston in 2008 and Miami in 2013.
In a league that has been engulfed by the perimeter jump shot, it nearly seems as if Allen was ahead of his time when he came into the league in the late 1990s. If the Warriors pick up another big name during the offseason, the 2016-17 series is theirs to win. Ray Allen and Cavaliers star forward LeBron James were teammates with the Miami Heat. He might be useful in small doses, but it’s hard to see him playing a big role or even a role as big as the one he played with the Heat.
