Ray Rice deserves second chance, Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti says
Rice would come very cheap, but any team that signs him would have to deal with the fallout and negative publicity surrounding the domestic violence incident. “Obviously Wilbert was Rice’s position coach for his first six years in the league (2008-13)”.
“I don’t think it’s gotten to that point, to say, ‘Hey, I’d kind of be comfortable with it, ‘” Pettine said.
Pettine began his NFL career in Baltimore in 2002, working his way up from a video assistant’s gig to linebackers coach before following Rex Ryan to the Jets in 2009. Pettine quickly pointed out his and running backs coach Wilbert Montgomery’s connection with Rice. There’s a real chance that Ray Rice could be back to the guy who was over 1,000 yards for four straight years while also catching more than 50 passes in five straight years. They now have Isaiah Crowell, Terrance West and Duke Johnson.
“I think enough people are coming around a year later and saying he deserves a second chance”, Bisciotti said on SiriusXM NFL Radio. All we know is that a team that could potentially pair Johnny Manziel and Rice in the backfield is a team that’s going to get a lot of press this fall. “But I don’t think we’re at this point”.
Could Ray Rice end up playing for Cleveland?
Did Ray Rice have to take regular injections in 2013 during his final season with the Ravens, just to play through the pain of a hip injury? He figured in a domestic violence issue when he hit his fiancee in a New Jersey casino elevtor in February 2014. It wasn’t until video of him knocking his then-fiancé unconscious was released that his suspension was extended.
The questions arose after reports dropped two days ago indicating just how unimpressed the team is with their present running backs.
Rice would fit perfectly into the starting role and would become the workhorse back that the Browns desperately need. Instead, I’d rather prefer a guy like Ahmad Bradshaw, if they do sign a veteran running back at all. Is Rice a better option than someone from a list that includes Chris Johnson, Pierre Thomas, Steven Jackson, Shonn Greene, Ahmad Bradshaw, Ben Tate, and Knowshon Moreno? League sources confirmed this to ESPN’s Dianna Russini.
