RCMP national website goes offline, Anonymous claims responsibility
The B.C. Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a man shot in an altercation with RCMP in Dawson Creek. That is a mask used by Anonymous, which claims the victim was one of its own.
It is unknown whether McIntyre is associated with the Twitter user jay mack, who at 2:23 p.m. July 16 posted “Anonymous splinter group 2 attend the scheduled meeting in Dawson Creek tonight starting at 6 pm”.
When contacted by Alaska Highway News, a woman believed to be a relative said “we don’t have any comment at this time, please respect our privacy”, before hanging up.
People claiming to be from the Anonymous group have said that the man was a member of a First Nations cell of Anonymous.
The release says McIntyre was fatally shot Thursday night outside a restaurant in Dawson Creek, where a hearing for the Site C hydroelectric dam was taking place.
On Sunday morning, the RCMP national website and Dawson Creek detachment site were both down, and a Twitter post from Anonymous included an online reporting site showing the servers down.
The Independent Investigations Office of B.C., a police watchdog, said the man had his face covered when he was shot by an RCMP officer. But we will also memorialize our previously slain brethren, and prepare to take action for future Anons killed by police – as we have no doubt they will cut down more of us.
Barb McLintock, a coroners service spokeswoman, said the victim’s name likely would be released Monday.
IIO investigators had on Saturday cleared the scene of the shooting, however investigators remain in Dawson Creek.
Since April 1, there have been six officer involved shootings in B.C., according to the IIO.
In the days since, witness video of the shooting surfaced.
One of the contested details of the shooting is in fact the mask, early reports suggest that the victim was indeed wearing the Guy Fawkes mask, although the IIO has refused to reveal exactly what type of mask the man was wearing.
“The cops just … shot this guy”, says the man recording the cellphone video.
One of the officers gets closer and kicks away an object that was on the ground.
