Rdio Subscribers Will Be Converted To Free Accounts From Today
After details reported that Pandora is planning to acquire the Rdio service which is now in the process of winding down and being restructured.
Additionally, all existing premium subscriptions will be cancelled at the time of your next billing date and you will stop seeing recurring payments taken from your credit/debit card.
Rdio subscribers will no longer be allowed to renew their subscription after November 23.
Pending the company’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing, Pandora – which bought pieces of the on-demand music streamer for $75 million – will implement a few of Rdio’s assets. Those services will be available until Rdio goes offline. “I couldn’t be more optimistic about Pandora’s future and the future of music”.
The deal is just one of those cases in which a rivalry between companies from similar industries reaches a point when the weaker competitor would end up joining the larger and seemingly stronger service. This raises the question: What happens next to the accounts of Rdio users, particularly paying subscribers?
More specifics on the exact timing of Rdio’s end of service and how to export Rdio data, including playlists and favorites, will come soon via email, according to the blog post.
Rdio will no longer be taking new subscriptions after the 23rd, and all users will be transitioned to Rdio’s free, ad-supported tier following the final day of their billing cycle.
Rdio’s fortune indicates that it is hard for a small company to survive in the music streaming business.
“Our goal is to make this transition as smooth as possible”, said Rdio.
