Re-live the old days with PAC-MAN 256 on your mobile
So… what if one of those walls didn’t exist, and the maze became endless?
Prior this late spring, Bandai Namco reported it was tasking Crossy Road designer Hipster Whale with the making of an unending Pac-Man versatile amusement for the arrangement’s 35th commemoration.
Maybe because it’s by Hipster Whale, the studio that re-spun Frogger as an endless runner wrapped in pixel art inside a vortex of in-app purchases and cheekily dubbed it Crossy Road. It’s signaled by the screen being garbled by visual programming glitches. In Pac-Man 256, the maze crumbles a few inches behind, creating a constant sense of panic to continue moving forward. They’re both great fun to watch, nearly as much fun as the game is to play! “Now the day is here people can play our tribute to the PAC-MAN legacy, PAC-MAN 256!“. A third makes you a non-suicidal bomber, capable of obliterating crowds of nearby ghosts at once.
Don’t worry, Pac-Man won’t be going down that easily.
This story was originally published as “Australian-made Pac-Man 256 out early on Android”. Newly introduced power-ups include laser beams and freeze rays. If you get trapped, it’s game over. These bonus powers can be invaluable when the game gets really tough, so use them wisely.
You’ve played Pac-Man. You’ve played Ms. Pac-Man. Eventually you’ll be tearing around the map while dodging hordes of ghosts, and if you can eat 256 pellets in a row without stopping, you’ll trigger an explosion that destroys nearby ghosts.
256 plays off the infamous glitch that may occur when you pass the original Pac-Man game’s 255th level. Alternatively, there is an IAP that allows players to remove the credit system altogether. You could still play, but it was pretty hard since the corrupted characters could block your path and do all sorts of other weird things. Grey ghosts that appear and awake out when Pac-Man draws near are one type.
