So it’s no wonder that Blake Shelton and Rachel Platten recalled how “sweet” she was and other musicians praised her “caring” and “everyday kindness”. He left little trace online.
“Even when she was really young, she could pick out the harmonies”, Lauren Longo, one of Grimmie’s friends who urged her to put videos on YouTube in 2009, told the Courier-Post in 2014.
Grimmie’s brother, Marcus, immediately tackled Loibl who then shot and killed himself during the struggle, police said. Christina Grimmie died after about five hours in the hospital.
“Her ambition and the passion that drove that ambition, the unconditional love she shared with others, her laugh, her talking voice, her singing voice, her moral ethics, the love we shared with each other, our adventures together, working together”, he fondly remembers.
Christina Grimmie was shot dead as she signed autographs for fans. “This white male approached her and opened fire, striking her”, Mina said. Preceding her were John Lennon, designer Gianni Versace and 1980s sitcom star Rebecca Shaeffer.
“Behati [Prinsloo] and I are absolutely devastated and heartbroken by Christina Grimmie’s tragic death”, he said in a statement to ET. After a cover of Drake’s Hold On, We’re Going Home, Rock and Hall of Famer (and Levine’s mentor) Graham Nash said he was “amazed at the range and the control and the depth of her voice”, according to People.
Grimmie finished third during Season six of NBC’s “The Voice” in 2014. “We lost a attractive soul with an fantastic voice”.
As word of Grimmie’s shooting and subsequent death spread quickly on social media, fans posted video clips of her performances, including her cover of Miley Cyrus’s Wrecking Ball during a blind audition on The Voice.
“I’m done being surprised by cool things she does”.
Her growing success sparked Grimmie’s move to Los Angeles, far from her hometown of Marlton, New Jersey, a small community some 20 miles from Philadelphia. She was intent on finding success on her own terms, writing songs that expressed her interests, “not just dancing and getting drunk and blah-blah-blah”, as she told Entertainment Weekly. “I have no clue why a person would ever want to hurt anyone, let alone someone who is so loving”.
She reached a new level of fame after competing on The Voice on Adam Levine’s team.
