Real estate heir Robert Durst pleads guilty to gun charge
Here is everything you need to know.
On Wednesday, Durst pleaded guilty in a Louisiana federal court to possessing a gun as a convicted felon.
DeGuerin wouldn’t say whether Durst will get back the cash and everything found in his hotel room.
He will forfeit some $117,000 that authorities found on him, along with the gun and marijuana.
Durst, who is being held without bail, also faces murder charges in Los Angeles, where he is accused in the unsolved slaying of Susan Berman, his longtime friend.
Investigators had reopened the case of Kathleen Durst’s 1982 disappearance when Berman was killed. Durst denies being involved in Berman’s death.
“By an agreement between several jurisdictions, there will be no other prosecutions of Bob Durst and he will be transferred to California for trial on the Susan Berman murder accusation”, the statement read.
“This agreement has a lot of moving parts and a lot of jurisdictions”. Durst is facing a murder charges in LA for the slaying of Susan Berman. Durst claimed he dropped her off the train station but her family suspects foul play.
Her sisters and mother sued him for $100 million previous year in Nassau County, accusing him of depriving them of their right to properly bury Kathie. Durst’s lawyer has said his client is eager to prove his innocence. Durst had been previously acquitted of the death of neighbor Morris Black in 2003. He describing the proposed sentence as “the result of very intense negotiations” among federal prosecutors, Durst’s attorneys, and the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office, which originally brought a weapons charge against Durst.
Durst pleaded guilty Wednesday to a weapons charge and agreed to seven years and a month in prison. He’ll serve his time at FCI Terminal Island, a low-security prison near Los Angeles.
The agreed-upon 85-month sentence for Durst is contained in an all-or-nothing plea deal. The maximum sentence would be 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Durst was formally arrested early on the day of the broadcast. Durst is expected to go on trial on murder charges this summer in California.
