Real Fall To Sevilla & Lose La Liga Lead
Madrid’s unbeaten run came to an end when they lost away to Sevilla, giving Barcelona the chance to go ahead by three points after they won their match against Villarreal.
Things started out well for Real Madrid under ideal playing conditions, with team captain Sergio Ramos scoring against his former team in the 22nd minute but injuring his shoulder with his bicycle kick shot-on-goal in the process and having to leave the pitch.
The home side’s goalkeeper Sergio Rico made a super save to keep out Gareth Bale in the 32nd minute and four minutes later, Emery’s side were level.
Midfielder Ever Banega got the second when it latched onto a cross to tap the ball home, before substitute Fernando Llorente put them two ahead. After 10 games, the Spanish giants were even on points, but that changed at the weekend as Real slipped up against Sevilla and suffered its first loss of the domestic campaign.
Neymar and Suarez lead Barcelona with 13 goals each this season and have scored 20 of Barcelona’s 23 goals since Lionel Messi tore a ligament in his left knee on September 26.
It finished 3-0 to Barca, but the game was a tight one until the opening goal, with the Blaugrana struggling to find space around the Villarreal penalty area and the visitors looking risky on the break, a pattern we could well see at the Bernabeu in less than two weeks.
The 29-year-old centre-back was injured when he landed hard on his shoulder in scoring an acrobatic opener against Sevilla.
In Pepe and Raphael Varane, Los Blancos have the quality to cover for Ramos if he is absent for the Barca clash. I don’t care what people think, what they say.
The best was yet to come from Neymar, though, as he collected Suarez’s pass and lifted the ball over Costa before turning to fire home on the volley. Meanwhile, Sevilla climb to 10 place hoping to kick-start their season after tonight’s morale-boosting victory over the Madrid giants.
Athletic Bilbao moved into the top half of the table with their fifth consecutive win as 21-year-old sensation Inaki Williams struck a wonder goal in a 3-1 win over Espanyol.
