Real Madrid and Atletico have transfer bans suspended pending appeals
Real added on their website (www.realmadrid.com): “Real Madrid has announced that the FIFA Appeal Committee has chose to provisionally suspend the sanction imposed on the club”.
MADRID (AP) – The transfer bans imposed by Federation Internationale de Football Association on Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid have been temporarily suspended until the appeals process is finalized, the soccer’s world governing body said Friday.
Both clubs were banned for breaches “relating to the worldwide transfer and registration of players under the age of 18”.
“In addition, we request the probationary suspension of the sanction pending the outcome of the appeal”.
Both clubs can now sign players while Federation Internationale de Football Association makes a determination on the appeal.
Los Blancos, along with city rivals Atletico, were hit with the sanction which was set to come into force over the summer, and prevent them from signing players until the end of next season.
Atletico have also defended their position on the issue.
SI senior writer Grant Wahl breaks down the upcoming matchup between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid and explains how this game may determine which team will win the La Liga title.
The same option will be open to Real and Atletico to sign this summer if their appeal is not heard by the time the transfer market reopens on July 1.
They could sign players without being able to register them until the ban is lifted, as Barcelona did with Arda Turan and Aleix Vidal.
