Real Madrid appoint Zinedine Zidane as head coach
Not only the result of his team, but also the style of coaching was widely disliked by Madrid fans.
Real Madrid is third in the Spanish league, four points behind leader Atletico Madrid and two behind Barcelona. No manager has lasted longer than three seasons at Madrid while Perez has been in charge. This is the second time that the former Liverpool manager has been sacked midway through the season.
Benitez is the 10th coach to be sacked by the controversial Perez in his stormy 13 years at the helm.
Despite the lack of experience compared to those who have previously held the position Zidane appears to be a popular choice among the Madrid fans.
Right from the start of his reign in June, Benitez struggled to gain the respect of Madrid’s star-studded squad with many senior players voicing their displeasure at the sacking of his predecessor Ancelotti.
Zenden worked as Benitez’s number two at Chelsea and backed his former boss’ record at Madrid, insisting he did not deserve to be axed.
“Winning is key at this club”.
Zidane, who played for Real Madrid between 2001-2006, worked as an assistant to Ancelotti before taking charge of the organization’s B team, Real Madrid Castilla.
Perez called the decision to replace Benitez “difficult”. “Zidane is undoubtedly one of the greatest figures in the history of football”. Zinedine Zidane, this is your arena and this is your club.
At the same time, Perez might be known for being a little optimistic. Casillas also helped lead Spain to European Championships in 2008 and 2012, as well as a World Cup triumph in 2010. He has faced important challenges throughout his life, with dedication and talent.
“Zinedine Zidane, this is your club, this is your stadium and you have all our support. But I can make sure that the side works the way it did today”. “For you, the word impossible does not exist”, Perez concluded.
Zidane said he was optimistic about the opportunity.
Zidane’s first game in charge will at the Bernabeu against Deportivo La Coruna on January 9th.
Not to mention, since Zidane is in and Benitez is out, we certainly did not forget the dispute between Zidane and Barcelona’s current manager Luis Enrique back when they were playing for their respective teams. What we must do now is try and do the most possible so that this team wins something at the end of the season.
“They’re fantastic players but sometimes you have to accept there’s another three – Messi, Neymar and Suarez – who are that little bit better at the moment”.
“I’m looking forward to working with everyone tomorrow”.
At his unveiling on Tuesday, Zidane vowed: “I am going to put my heart and soul into this job so that everything works out well”.
