Real Madrid beat AC Milan 10-9 on penalties
Real Madrid will look to continue their fine pre-season form when they lock horns with Italian giants AC Milan in the global Champions Cup in Shanghai on 30 July.
Sixteen-year-old goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma saw the crucial penalty saved by Kiko Casilla, after he had earlier kept his side in the shoot-out with a save from Toni Kroos. With the game finishing 0-0 and going to penalties, Casilla stepped up to score his own before sealing a 10-9 win with the decisive save.
Colombian star James Rodriguez is likely to make his first start in Thursday’s clash.
Rafael Benitez included Luka Modric and Karim Benzema in his starting line-up after the duo missed Monday’s 3-0 victory over Inter due to niggles, while Sergio Ramos – reportedly set to sign a new contract – dropped to the bench.
“We must always remain an organized team and one that plays to win”.
AC Milan’s official Twitter account labelled the gesture as a “special birthday surprise” which presumably eased the Rossoneri’s penalty shootout loss to the La Liga club.
He has spent time on loan at Fiorentina, Genoa, and back at Juve, but failed to impress at the Old Lady last term, managing just five league outings and no goals after moving in February-he did at least scored the winning extra-time in the Coppa Italia Final victory over Lazio.
“The [managerial] change means they are still very ambitious and they want to get better”.
The newly appointed AC Milan boss though is not at all disappointed with the loss and feels that his side can take pride from the fact that they were able to drag the Spanish team to penalties.
