Real Madrid president Florentino Perez fuming at United over De Gea saga
Sergio Ramos has told David de Gea that life goes on and to show his best form for Manchester United this season, even after his move to Real Madrid fell through because of paperwork being late.
The Spanish club had earlier claimed the collapse of the proposed deal that would have sent the Spain goalkeeper to the Bernabeu was caused by a lack of experience in the Old Trafford boardroom.
-Manchester United sent transfer documents for both players to Real Madrid at 2042 BST.
The construction magnate noted that a similar situation had occurred past year when United wanted to buy Real’s Portugal fullback Fabio Coentrao and also when they were tying up a deal to sign midfielder Ander Herrera from Athletic Bilbao. “We, Real Madrid and Federation Internationale de Football Association have proof but we do not want to make it public”.
Having been dropped by Louis van Gaal amid the ongoing transfer saga, it remains to be seen whether De Gea – whose contract expires in June 2016 – will feature again in United’s starting XI. “I don’t think it was in bad faith”.
However, it was speculated that De Gea may have been persuaded by United officials to sign an extension and then promised that he will be transferred to Real in January when the transfer window re-opens.
“We still have a good relationship with Manchester United but this is the exactly the same as what happened before with Coentrao and Herrera and we thought they would have learned from what happened in the past”.
“But it’s more than we’re going to do in future windows, that’s for sure”.
The Madrid club have come in for ridicule in the Spanish press, but Perez, speaking on Cadena Ser radio, denied it was their fault.
The global transfer and registration with the league are two different, if related processes and it is Madrid’s responsibility to register the player with the league, not United’s.
“Since I joined Manchester, I’ve always felt important in the team I’m happy with the goals, the assists and the games played”, he said.
