Real Madrid star cried after Man United move collapsed
Navas, who never hid his desire to stay in Madrid, is thrilled with how it all turned out.
MADRID – Real Madrid might consider itself lucky the plan to trade goalkeeper Keylor Navas and cash for David de Gea never materialized.
Navas has shown poise and dexterity in goal since his move to Manchester United collapsed at the end of the transfer window and has quickly won the admiration of the Bernabeu crowd.
And the former Levante goalkeeper, speaking to Spanish radio station Cadena COPE, revealed that the events caused considerable emotional strain as he was close to boarding the flight.
“I cried that night when I found out I was staying – it was a build-up of emotions”.
Navas is just at 10 minutes of breaking Spanish Iker Casillas’ record. I was at the airport in a private room waiting for them to tell me what I had to do.
Perez though said: “Every day I’ve had to hear that we had to pay €10m for not signing De Gea and that’s a lie. Hard work has rewards and is the path that leads us to achieve great things”, said Navas.
“When everything has happened and you go home with your wife, you start thinking about what is happening…then I began to draw conclusions and these are moments I hope aren’t repeated because they’re not good”.
He does though seem back to his best, after making a string of fine saves in United’s 3-2 Premier League win at Southampton on Sunday. But after seeing how things turned out, they both might consider the non-deal a success.
