Rebecca Arthur missing: Teenager flew to Morocco to meet ‘Facebook boyfriend
Police say Rebecca went to meet a Facebook friend named Simo El Adala.
A teenage girl who secretly travelled to North Africa to meet a man she met on Facebook is reportedly safe and well.
Rebecca Arthur was at a vacation villa in the seaside community of Essaouira, Morocco, relaxing with her online beau and his family, Clinton police said.
Rebecca Arthur, 17, boarded a plane from New York’s JFK Airport on Monday after “pulling a fast one on her mother” police told the New York Daily News.
According to the profile, he lives in Uruguay.
Rebecca is expected to spend to two weeks in Morocco and return to the United States on July 21.
Homeland Security – which is tasked with protecting the American people from terrorist threats – and the Federal Bureau of Investigation were asked to assist local police in the hunt for the blonde teenager.
Offered Sgt. Jeremiah Dunn via the nydailynews: ‘We don’t know what her motive was, why she flew to Morocco, ‘.
“We are concerned for Rebecca’s well being and we want her home safely”.
Arthur was believed to be in grave danger after sneaking off to embark on the near 4,000-mile journey to pursue a relationship with her Facebook boyfriend Simo El Adala.
Both Arthur and El Adala’s Facebook cover photos show one another’s picture.
Someone commenting on Arthur’s photo, asking her who he is late last month, got this reply from the teen: ‘he’s my bf tehehe loll.’.
This follows her mother notifying police Wednesday night after failing to hear from her and becoming anxious.
