Reckoning for Pelosi as House Democrats vote for leader
Another Massachusetts congressman has officially thrown his support behind U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan’s bid to unseat Nancy Pelosi as Democratic leader in the House. She was the first female speaker of the House, from 2007-2011, and she served as whip before then. Tim Ryan to retain her post as top House Democrat for the 115th Congress in a 134-63 vote. Our party’s losses showed our Caucus that we needed to have a serious conversation about our path forward and open the door for new reforms and voices in Democratic Leadership. Republicans are on track to hold at least 240 seats in the House next year, while Democrats will have 194.

Rep. Stephen Lynch-a fellow Bay State Democrat and longtime Pelosi skeptic-officially endorsed Ryan on Monday, calling for a change of direction and labeling the recent election an “epic failure”.
“We lost the White House, the Senate”, said Moulton.
“We have to seriously look at this over-reliance on political consultants and media consultants and pollsters”, said Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss. “There’s no energy in that because it’s divided”, he said on NBC’s “Meet the Press” Sunday. “I don’t know how we win with that message”. The last significant challenge to Pelosi was in 2010 when Republicans regained the majority and moderate Democratic Rep. Heath Shuler of North Carolina challenged her.
“Today has a special excitement for me because I think we’re at a time that is well beyond politics”, Pelosi told reporters after her re-election. Currently, the leader chooses the head of the DCCC and it’s up to the caucus to approve.
Fudge, D-Warrensville Heights, said she has spent a “considerable amount of time” contemplating both the future of the House Democratic Caucus and the Democratic Party.
They are precisely the kind of people leaders like Pelosi have been ignoring, Ryan argues, and precisely the kind of people he represents in his district. Pelosi has led the party since 2003.
But while Ryan is still expected to fall short in his bid for leader, more than a dozen lawmakers who have told Pelosi they planned on supporting her have told BuzzFeed News they were either wavering or fully meant to support Ryan.
On my way home from work last night I heard that it was now official: pro-life Donald Trump had won Michigan’s 16 electoral votes.
