Record-breaking Dubai complex has indoor ski slope and 711-meter tower
Now the largest one in the world is SnowWorld in the Netherlands.
Dubai developer Meydan announced the launch of a new giant project known as “Meydan One” featuring a 711m-high tower, a huge new mall, the world’s largest indoor ski slope, the biggest dancing fountains in the world and a retractable roof.
If the idea of Dubai holding any sort of ski run record sounds outlandish, it’s worth noting that the United Arab Emirates already holds the record, thanks to its 400-metre slope at the Mall of the Emirates, opened in 2005.
At 711 meters high, the Dubai One Tower will be more than twice the height of The Shard, and 285 metres taller than 432 Park Avenue in New York – the world’s current tallest residential building. With more than 300 restaurants, cafes and kiosks offering fine dining and fast food options, the mall will also attract retailers, luxury stand-alone outlets and nightlife.
“We have committed to developing a multi-use destination which goes beyond expectations and will cater to every kind of person living and working here, as well as those who travel from around the world to visit”, Saeed Al Tayer, chairman of the Meydan City Corporation, told The National.
The first phase of the project, eventually to house up to 78,000 residents, should be completed in the next five years, in time for the UAE’s hosting of World Expo 2020, according to its promoters.
The Burj Khalifa, also in Dubai, is now the tallest artificial structure in the world at 830m.
The ski slope is part of the Meydan One complex being built by Ruler of Dubai Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
