The e-commerce software company’s customers increased their total e-commerce same store sales (SSS) by 18 percent year over year on Cyber Monday (Nov. 30, 2015) and 20.9 percent year over year during the five days from Thanksgiving (Nov. 27, 2015) through Cyber Monday – the Cyber Five. The two reports stressed the foothold that mobile platforms, such as smartphones and tablets, have had in recent years during the online shopping day. “It’s just reflective of the fact that we’ve had a plethora of Black Friday deals starting just after Halloween …coupled with Wal-Mart and others offering Black Friday deals online on Thanksgiving”, Perkins said.
Amazon issued a press release on Tuesday to boast that the holiday shopping weekend was the best ever for Amazon hardware: “The top-selling products across all of the products available on Amazon.com this Black Friday were Amazon devices – #1 was Fire, #2 was Fire TV Stick”, it said.
“Cyber Monday has pushed online spending to a new high, and is on track to hit a record $3 billion in sales, in line with our forecast”, Adobe Digital Index Principal Analyst Tamara Gaffney said in a statement.
The name “Cyber Monday” was coined in 2005 by the National Retail Federation’s online arm, called Shop.org, to encourage people to shop online. A Target spokeswoman said volume had been twice as high as its busiest day ever and that as the website had seen spikes in traffic so some visitors were placed in a queue.
A decade ago, online shopping was in its beginning stage. Both of these decreases are a result of the 14% increase in online shopping traffic on Black Friday grossing $2.72 billion on its own.
“Most of my shopping is done online, only because I have more time to browse for items”, she said.
