I am not even going to say anything about reason 3 because I am going to buy some cool unusual collectible records. Both stores open at 9 a.m. Saturday, an hour earlier than usual.
“The limited availability is why a year ago we had over 60 customers waiting for us to open at 8am, some diehard fans had been there since 3am”.

Another local record store, Deep Groove Records in Phoenixville, is also participating in the Record Store Day excitement.
“They call it the ‘vinyl resurgence, ‘ but it started with Record Store Day”, Brown said. No one had ever had the big rush right after Christmas in like, February, March. All of a sudden, everyone has got these orders and everything.
This year’s exclusive releases include titles from Gerard Way, Against Me!, All Time Low, Avenged Sevenfold, Thrice, the Dillinger Escape Plan and more. “I usually have another stack of records in my hand, anyway”. And that is kind of what happened the first few years. But (Record Store Day) really has brought it back to people between 20 and 30.
“We have to take things day-to-day because things can change”, he said.
Record Store Day is coming up on Saturday, April 22.
What’s the strangest thing you had to press for Record Store Day this year? “That’s when I decided I can create a record series for Strut; have it styled and record some videos”. I’ve seen people from all walks of life.
“It’s just fun”, he said.
Numerous stores are in smaller towns, and much of the business is driven by a resurgence of vinyl record sales, according to the report.
In 10 years of operating a record store, what have you learned about music retail and the industry in general?

Joe Nardone Jr., co-owner of Gallery of Sound – which has locations in the Fashion Mall in Dickson City, Laurel Mall Strip Center in Hazleton and at 186 Mundy St.in Wilkes-Barre – has participated in the event since its inception and witnessed it change and grow over the years. This Irish chap has been all over the world, going on European and United States tours since he started his musical journey in 2015, and now you can catch him in this intimate environment. It’s wild how many we have to do!
“Just go out and support your local record store”, Mr. Wilson said. And in-store performances are a popular part of the mix.
Brown doesn’t think it’s any coincidence that the growing popularity of vinyl records coincided with the creation of an annual event to celebrate stores with vinyl. But then if all of a sudden it was gone… I’m just thinking as I type, but it could be a national event that drives people to indie stores. I guess we’ll see how that goes.
“There was this general notion that record stores didn’t exist anymore”, Wilson said. “Since we didn’t open until January, we missed that deadline”. Hopefully we’ll get some of them. “It’s important for us”.
For some of us, it’s hard to remember a time before streaming services, such as Tidal and Pandora, made it easy to access music anytime and any place. However, we will have thousands of vintage vinyl albums and new release records on the shelves.
