Records fall (and so do the Cardinals) in authoritative Seahawks win
The Seattle-Minnesota game is 10 a.m. PT Sunday (KGW 8).
Not only did the Seahawks makeshift offensive line limit the Cardinals to just one sack, it also cleared tons of space in the running game.
Arizona is coming off of a 36-6 loss to the Seahawks in Week 17. Thomas Rawls filled in admirably until his injury in Week 14 but the holes in the back field showed last week in a 23-17 home loss to St. Louis. “When we just do our thing, no one can stop us”. “I think people can sometimes forget who we are”.
Riding their longest winning streak since 1948, the Arizona Cardinals are still in contention for the No. 1 seed in the NFC as they prepare for a rematch with the visiting Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.
“This was a valuable lesson today”. It was awesome to see him get rewarded with as easy of a touchdown catch as you will see. I don’t want to change any way we prepare. This was a nice wakeup call. We’re getting closer to finally seeing how it all shakes out.
If, however, Green Bay wins on Sunday night, the Seahawks will be the No. 5 seed – and that leaves the door open for Cards-Seahawks Part III in the Divisional round. Barring a huge reversal of fortunes in the second half, it looks like the Seahawks are going to win this one and move their record to 10-6. Arizona played without starting OLB Markus Golden (knee).
While Wilson established himself as a premier passer well before this season, he elevated his play in 2015 and set franchise records in the process.
Tarvaris Jackson took over in the fourth Quarter. That would be the Vikings if Seattle wins or the Seahawks if Seattle loses. Christine Michael rushed for a career-high 102 yards.
Wilson completed 19 of 28 passes for 197 yards.
Larry Fitzgerald’s six catches gave him 109 for the season, breaking the franchise record of 104 he set a decade ago in his second season in the league.
Of course there isn’t much difference between the sixth and fifth seeds in terms of home field, unless due to what would need to be a series of upsets, the two teams met in the second of third playoff rounds.
On the season, the Seattle Seahawks average 238.7 yards in passing ad 141.6 yards in rushing. When Wilson connected with Jermaine Kearse for a 24-yard TD, it was 30-6.
Then came the Seahawks’ deluge. Baldwin has had two 100-yard games in a row against the vaunted Cardinals secondary, led by cover CB Patrick Peterson.
Sherman leaped and knocked away Palmer’s deep, third-down pass to Brown in the first quarter, the only time that this game was in doubt.
Palmer and his offense were not on the same page at all and the Cards went 3-and-out punting right back to Lockett who ran it back another 42 yards giving the Hawks 1st and 10 from the 27.
“They should be concerned”, Seattle cornerback Richard Sherman said.
LOSING MOMENTUM: The Cardinals tried to brush aside suggestions that the loss had destroyed the momentum they had built going into the postseason.
